Sister dailies dominate shortlist for Yorkshire and Humber Media Awards

O2 Awards logoThe Yorkshire Post and Yorkshire Evening Post have dominated the shortlist for this year’s O2 Media Awards for Yorkshire and The Humber.

The Leeds-based sister dailies have multiple nominations across 12 of the awards’ 23 categories, with its writers featuring in news, sport, features and specialist reporter categories.

There are also nominations for staff photographers James Hardisty and Jonathan Gawthorpe in Image of the Year.

The Hull Daily Mail won eight nominations in total – including Daily Newspaper of the Year, where it will face off against the Post and Evening Post.

Nicola Green, director of communications and reputation at O2 UK, said: “The year produced some exceptional stories in what was a remarkable 12 [months] for news events. The diversity of entries gave judging panels a hugely difficult task in selecting shorlisted finalists.

“Many of those who didn’t make the final line-up this time around may well have been winners in previous years. The quality of all the entrants’ submissions was very high.”

The awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Northern Ballet, in Leeds, on 6 October.
