New social media editor appointed at Press Association

Steve JonesA new social media editor has been appointed by national news agency the Press Association.

Steve Jones, pictured left, will take up the role on 10 March, with responsibilities including direct activity around the PA’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.

He will also oversee content discovery, verification, copyright and newsgathering. In addition, he will look to further enhance the PA’s profile on existing and emerging social platforms.

Steve will also take responsibility for social media training, working closely with editorial leads across News, Sport and Features.

He joins PA from ITV News online and was also previously senior editor at MSN News.

Steve’s appointment comes following the departure of PA’s first ever social media editor, Darren Waters, in December, who left to take up a new job closer to his home in Cardiff.

PA editor-in-chief Pete Clifton said: “I am delighted to have someone with Steve’s experience and great ideas joining PA’s main news desk in London.

“We have made huge strides in this area over the past year and I know we will keep up that momentum with Steve on board.”

Steve added: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining the PA – a top-class newsroom, buzzing with ideas, which has already proven social media to be at the heart of what it does. I can’t wait for day one to come around.”
