A new app which allows readers to see stories from the point of view of up to three rival news sources has been launched by a regional publisher.
Trinity Mirror has announced the creation of its mobile news aggregation app, called ‘Perspecs’, which lets its users see “three sides to a news story”.
Examples include the ability to view neutral, left and right-wing political perspectives of the same story, or a home, away or neutral report on a football result.
The app – available on iOS and Android – uses sources from across the world, from titles such as CNN, GQ and the New York Times. It’s been designed and built in-house by Trinity Mirror’s Product team.
Darren Sher, head of product for Trinity Mirror Regionals, Apps & Email, said: “There’s a growing trend of people questioning their news sources.
“The aim with Perspecs is to offer readers the opportunity to make up their own mind about a story rather than relying on a single source of news.
“The app also helps users discover new publications they may not have previously considered reading or known about.”
“Perspecs has been developed in-house from idea to prototype to a beta-launch. Innovation is very much encouraged alongside the day-to-day work we do improving our digital products.”

I must admit this could be useful.
Wayne Rooney tweets picture of his kids, one of which wears a Villa shirt. I need all three Trinity Mirror outlets who cover it in one app so I can see which team’s shirt he was wearing.

etc etc
Who needs twitter, aside from publications begging for clicks.

Not sure this can be implemented in local news, where the SAME story ends up in three different local publications. Its the same because there aren’t enough reporters with time on their hands to re-edit the press release.

Lots of astroturfing on this as it ‘hits’ social media. Who knew TM had so many social accounts!
