Regional journalist who was feared missing is found safe and well

Esther BeadleA regional daily journalist who was reported missing over the weekend has been found safe and well.

Police have confirmed Oxford Mail assistant news editor Esther Beadle, pictured left, was found on Sunday after going missing on Friday evening.

She was last seen leaving her home in the Cowley area of Oxford at around 10pm, prompting an appeal to find her which was widely shared on social media.

But Thames Valley Police, which was leading the investigation, confirmed she had been found yesterday evening.

A statement on the force’s official Twitter account reads: “We can confirm that Esther Beadle who was reported missing from Oxford has been found safe. Thank you everyone for your concern.”

Originally from Newcastle, Esther trained as a journalist with the Press Association course in the city in 2012.

In June of that year, she took up her first reporting role with the Evening Express, in Aberdeen.

She took up her current role with the Mail in April 2014.

She began her first reporting job in June 2012 and became an assistant news editor with less than two years experience? How times have changed.

Dave: I hope with sensitivity. We obviously aren’t hearing the full story from this episode, though I’m glad she’s safe and well.

As readers of this website were not told when this young lady went missing, is there actually any point in running an article to tell us she has been found safe and well?

Observer50 The appeal went out on social media and was shared by many fellow journalists. Not everyone will know that she is safe. And anyway, it’s still a valid story.

Of course the main thing is that the young woman is safe and well but was she ever in any danger is the answer most people would like to know?
Just because she went off the grid for the weekend doesn’t necessarily mean she was in any danger.
It’s awkward, I know, but I think we are owed a rudimentary explanation. What damage is done by calling her disappearance as related to personal issues, for instance? Or are we meant to assume that?
