Sister dailies relaunch mobile apps with interactive maps

Two sister dailies have relaunched their mobile apps with new features including interactive maps.

The Shropshire Star and Express & Star, Wolverhampton, have unveiled the new look apps for Phone, iPad, Android and Kindle – which also include video and social media features, as well as live news direct from the titles’ respective websites.

Previously, the Midland News Association-owned newspapers’ apps had offered only PDF versions of pages from that day’s edition.

The free to download apps launched yesterday, and comprehensive football and entertainment coverage is also promised.

MNA Digital managing director Andy Hill said: “We know just how important mobile devices are when it comes to reading news.

“Well over half of our website traffic comes from phones, so that’s why it’s vital that we make browsing our sites and accessing our web content and digital editions of the paper a great experience.”

Readers can also sign up to a ‘PLUS+’ subscription deal – which includes the app, digital edition and print edition delivered six days a week.

As part of the deal, priced at £10 per month for the first two months, readers will also get a seven-day searchable archive and the ability for readers to stop and start their subscription when they go on holiday.
