Former regional journalist to lead Lib Dems in city he serves

Jon HuntA former regional journalist turned freelancer has taken on the leadership of the Liberal Democrats in the city he serves.

Jon Hunt, pictured left, who had a decade-long spell as health correspondent for Birmingham Post, has taken up the role with the Lib Dems on Birmingham City Council.

Jon, who remains a part-time medical journalist running his own online news agency, worked at the Post for ten years up to 1998 before later embarking on his political career.

He now leads an 11-strong Lib Dem group on the Labour-run council, and told his former newspaper he intends to focus on rebuilding the party’s grass roots support in Birmingham.

Said Jon: “This is what I intend the Liberal Democrats will be known for as we rebuild from our own dark days in the first half of this decade.

“I believe we desperately need good Liberal Democrat councillors in Birmingham to ensure the voices of ordinary people are heard and to promote sensible and realistic policies.”

Jon was first elected to the Perry Barr ward, in Birmingham, in 2003.  He chaired the authority’s education scrutiny committee for six years and was vice-chairman of the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority for two years.

I maintain my view that a LIberal Democrat is someone who has never been burgled or fined £100 for ‘speeding’ at 31 mph in a 30 mph zone. Thank God most people had the same jaundiced opinion of them at the last election.

Onlooker: No-one has ever been burgled. Only buildings can be. A person is robbed.

We have two comments and why is it that no-one can consider his skills in either rol?. And may I add Pedant that the you are right in the criminal sense but that it someone’s goods in a building that are burgled…. The building can bear scars, but I suggest the person whom this happens too may have far deeper ones. I do trust Jon Hunt knows the difference.
