Club’s European home bow prompts special daily supplement

Leicester City’s Champions League home debut was marked by a special newspaper supplement yesterday.

The 12-page pullout appeared in the Leicester Mercury following the Foxes’ 1-0 win against FC Porto 1-0 on Tuesday night.

The historic occasion was covered in Wednesday’s edition of the paper, but the Mercury decided to extend its post-match coverage into the following day due to interest from readers.

The supplement follows on from several special publications produced by the Trinity Mirror-owned title after City became champions of England for the first time in their 132-year history in May.

Editor George Oliver said: “We’d covered the build-up to the game in the paper and, on Tuesday, the Mercury’s website had three separate live blogs around the build-up and the match itself.

“The next day we had print News pages from the city’s fanzone as well as the match coverage in Sport.

“Understandably, though, there was still a lot of interest in the match so – following the success of the picture-led supplements after the title win earlier this year – the team here put together this together for Thursday’s paper.”
