Press club awards life membership to former business editor

A former regional daily business editor has been made an honorary life member of the world’s oldest press club.

The Birmingham Press Club has bestowed the accolade upon Fred Bromwich, who used to work at the Birmingham Post.

Fred was honoured for both his services to journalism and the club itself, of which he is currently vice-chairman and was previously events committee chairman.

He received the honour alongside broadcaster Tom Ross, who currently hosts a Friday evening phone-in programme for local television channel Made in Birmingham.

Said Fred: “Like Tom, I feel very honoured.”

The pair received their honorary life memberships along with the traditional gift of an engraved bugle at the club’s Christmas lunch.

More than 100 people attended the lunch, held at The Loft Lounge, Birmingham.

A raffle in aid of the Journalists’ Charity raised £500.
