Digital chief leaves regional publisher after web overhaul

chris-russellA digital chief has left a regional publisher after overseeing a group-wide upgrade of its local newspaper websites.

Chris Russell has left Trinity Mirror to “seek a new challenge” following the upgrade, which was rolled-out across the company’s regional sites in October.

Chris, left, has served as product director for Trinity Mirror Digital since 2013, after joining the company from the BBC.

The recent overhaul saw websites moved on to a new ‘Chameleon’ platform, which adapts automatically depending on whether the website is being viewed on a desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone.

Said Chris: “I’m proud to have developed a product strategy and team which has transformed Mirror.co.uk and Trinity Mirror’s large regional sites into some of the UK’s leading digital news products.

“Having just relaunched our sites on a new website platform, it is the right time for me to hand over to that hugely talented team and seek a new challenge in 2017.”

Eirik Svendsen, group chief technology officer for Trinity Mirror, said: “Chris has decided that this is the right time for him to step down, and I would like to thank him for his tremendous contribution to Trinity Mirror’s digital transformation over the past three years.

“We wish Chris well in his future career.”
