Regional daily erects banner as it backs club’s promotion drive

A regional daily has erected a large banner outside its offices in support of its local football team’s latest promotion push.

The Derby Telegraph is lending its support to Derby County FC, who have qualified for the Championship play-offs later this month.

Victory would see the Rams return to England’s top flight, the Premier League, for the first time since 2008.

The banner is now on display outside the Telegraph’s offices , on Siddals Road, in Derby.

Steve Nicholson, the newspaper’s chief football writer, said: “Derby are unbeaten in six matches and they are in good shape ahead of the play offs.”

“Speaking to a number of the players I know they are determined to make up for the heartbreak they suffered in 2014 when they lost the play-off final at Wembley.

“They can be assured that everybody is right behind them, as the fans have shown with their support this season. I am certain that will be the case again in the semi-final and hopefully that will help roar on the Rams back to Wembley.

“The play offs will be tough and they can be highly unpredictable, but why should this not be Derby County’s year?”

Outgoing Telegraph editor Neil White added: “We know how much Derby County mean to our readers. We will be backing them all the way to the Premier League.”

Neil is due to leave the paper on 24 June with managing director Steve Hall set to resume the editor role he held from 2005-12..
