Regional daily to air Sky TV ads as part of new campaign

TV advertisements for a regional daily are set to appear as part of a campaign to promote the city it serves.

The Herald, Plymouth, has set up its #iamplymouth campaign, which aims to get people “shouting about how great” the city is.

Throughout November the adverts will appear on Sky channels, while buses in Plymouth will also publicise the campaign.

As part of the scheme, readers have the chance to win an iPad by sharing a picture of themselves with a copy of The Herald and the hashtag #iamplymouth on Twitter or Facebook.

Editor Paul Burton said: “This new marketing campaign is not just about promoting what a fantastic newspaper we think The Herald is, it’s about promoting Plymouth.

“We asked local people to star in it, to put some of the city’s best loved faces on the small screen and shout about how great Plymouth is and how proud we are to live here.

“There’s no doubting how proud we are of our city but we’re not always brilliant about shouting about how great it is.

“That’s the idea behind the hashtag #iamplymouth – a way of saying we’re unashamedly proud to be Plymothian.”

Olympic diver Tonia Couch and sprinter Katherine Endacott are among the local celebrities to bak the campaign, which was launched yesterday.

A piece promoting the scheme reads: “We love Plymouth and we’re proud to be from a city blessed with natural beauty, loveable characters and the spirit of a true British hero in Sir Francis Drake.

“When Drake refused to save our shores from the incoming Spanish Armada until he finished his game of bowls on the Hoe, it went down in folklore.

“It was one of those ‘very Plymouth’ moments in history that we love – a unique eccentricity found in Janners across the city.

“And that is exactly what The Herald is celebrating in its new marketing campaign with a 21st century twist – #iamplymouth.”
