Regional business journalist to take on magazine editor role

mike-hughesAn experienced regional daily business journalist has been named as the new editor of a quarterly business magazine.

Mike Hughes, left, will join BQ Yorkshire as editor next month after a 30-year career in business journalism which has included senior roles at the Birmingham Post and Evening Gazette.

He takes over from Andrew Mernin who is stepping down after four years to pursue other interests.

This includes launching a digital copywriting and PR agency, Mernin Headland, with business partner Kris Headland.

Said Mike: “I am thrilled and very proud to have been asked to edit BQ magazine in Yorkshire. Through my work in regional media, I have been highlighting and supporting successful businesses for more than 30 years.

“With a 6,000 square mile ‘patch’ starting just yards from my doorstep, I can’t wait to start working alongside Yorkshire companies and the inspirational people who create and develop them and drive the regional economy.”

Alan Dickinson, associate publisher at BQ, said: “Mike has a fabulous pedigree as a business journalist and a great track record when it comes to celebrating business success.

“I am certain that he will continue to make sure that our unique and growing business audience in Yorkshire treat BQ as quite simply essential.”

Outgoing editor Andrew added: “I’ve had a fantastic time covering Yorkshire’s hugely diverse business community in my time as editor and have met some truly inspiring entrepreneurs along the way. I wish Mike every success in his new role.”

As well as BQ Magazine in Yorkshire, BQ – which stands for Business Quarterly – also publishes in the West Midlands, Scotland and the North East.
