Newly-launched website honoured at digital awards

A news website launched earlier this year has been named the best in its region at a ceremony celebrating the digital industry.

Belfast Live won the accolade at the DANI Awards, which is open to companies operating in Northern Ireland’s digital sector.

The Trinity Mirror-owned site recorded more than one million unique users for the first time in July, less than five months after it launched.

The website was launched in February with the aim of being a “one-stop shop for all things Belfast”, and four new editorial roles were created as a result.

The site was also commended in the DANI Awards’ Social Media – breaking news category.

Editor Chris Sherrard was presented with the award at a ceremony in Derry on Friday.

He said: “Just to be nominated in these categories was a surprise and a great achievement, especially considering we didn’t even exist when the awards were held last year.

“We have had a great start since we launched and the reaction of the readers has been fantastic.

“This award is testament to the endless hard work put in by the entire Belfast Live team and each and every one of them can feel justifiably proud to have been recognised in this way.”
