Pound pledge for newspaper staff in charity campaign

Staff at six weekly newspapers have backed a charity campaign aimed at supporting the National Health Service.

Archant Devon workers have all pledged £1 as part of the Devon Freewheelers’ ‘Pound Pals’ campaign, which aims to get everyone in the county to donate the amount to help keep the charity’s services afloat.

Devon Freewheelers offers a free service for the NHS by delivering emergency blood donations for transfusions, donor breast milk to newborns, medication to patients and equipment to hospitals.

The charity says if everyone in Devon donated £1 to its cause, it would guarantee its future.

“Few people seem to really know what they quietly do to help saves lives.

“Since we launched a joint campaign across our Devon newspapers, the Freewheelers’ volunteers are already reaping just acknowledgement for their ‘blood bike’ service – and donations and offers of support.

“Our newspapers are the heart of our communities and our campaign is our way of saying thank you to our loyal readers and advertisers through supporting the incredible work of the Freewheelers.”

Archant’s Devon titles inclde the Cranbrook Herald, Exmouth Herald, Exmouth Journal, Midweek Herald, North Devon Gazette and Sidmouth Herald.

Great campaign idea…. but who took that pic?

    Obviously no picture desk there.

Probably a submit, Observer. Something we’re having to rely on more and more now.
To be fair, some of the submitted images we get at my paper aren’t all that bad. There are some surprisingly good ones at times. But then there are others which just leave me with my head in my hands.

Yes, pic out of focus and a bit of an embarrassment. Was Archant’s Devon snapper on holiday that day?

Pity we can’t ask for a whip-round to cover the costs of local journalism…
