The main story on the leisure page in this week’s Herts Advertiser is ostensibly promoting a kids dinosaur show for school half-term week…but we suspect the headline-writer may have been having a bit of a laugh at the expense of venerable folk-rockers Fairport Convention.

Really? Perhaps not, but what a Jurassic lark, eh.
Didn’t the publisher axe its regional production hub (subs/designers and production eds) last year? Mmmm.
And is it Fair port Convention in the caption?

How standards have slipped.

The headline joke is fine. Witty even. Allowing the auto text to dissect the name Fairport in the caption is not.

Idle Rich – it could be worse. I remember another title from the Archant stable doing a piece in its leisure section about an open day at a wolf sanctuary. Readers were encouraged not to miss the opportunity to meet these “mythical” creatures. I’m not sure whether they did a piece on the local minotaur sanctuary the following week.

I went to junior & senior Brum schools with Dave Pegg of the Fairport Convention group. He was talented then & still is now. He must be the same age as me….67. I haven’t seen him for 51 years.
