Entries open for Midlands Media Awards as organisers mark 150th anniversary

peter lowe, sky newsEntries are now being received for this year’s Midlands Media Awards as its organiser celebrates its 150th anniversary.

The Birmingham Press Club is marking the milestone, with a total of 22 categories up for grabs at this year’s ceremony.

Entrants to this year’s awards will be initially scrutinised by a panel of 50 professionals who will then submit a shortlist to the final judging panel under the chairmanship of Peter Lowe, managing editor of Sky News.

Peter, pictured above left, will be judging the awards, sponsored by Birmingham Airport, for the third year in a row.

He said: “I feel very honoured to be asked back again. That makes it a hat-trick.

“If the last two years are anything to go by, then the standard is likely to be even higher this time.

“The bar just keeps being raised, especially in last year’s Newspaper of the Year entries.”

Birmingham Press Club chairman Ed James added: “The awards, eagerly awaited by those working in the region’s media industry, are a reflection of the tremendous achievements that are being made by those working in a profession which now seems to face fresh challenges almost daily.”

The ceremony will take place at The Holte Suite, Villa Park, Birmingham, on Thursday 10 September.
