Editors to debate possible post-election press landscapes

John McLellanFour editors are set to speak at a General Election preview event hosted by the Scottish Newspaper Society.

Damian Bates, from Aberdeen’s Press and Journal, and Richard Walker, of Glasgow-based titles the Sunday Herald and The National, will be joined by The Sunday Mail’s Jim Wilson and the Scottish Sun’s Gordon Smart at tomorrow’s reception.

The event will see the guests join SNS director John McLellan, pictured left, for a look ahead to the 7 May poll and to discuss the possible landscapes in which the media will operate after that.

The event has been organised by the SNS in conjunction with Mediaforce as part of the current SNS campaign to highlight support for the industry amongst leading Scottish business figures.

Said John: “There is a good story to tell about Scottish newspapers and while it would be foolish to minimise the challenges faced in what continues to be a highly competitive world, it’s right that we celebrate the key role newspaper companies continue to play in the way in which Scottish people, politicians and companies communicate.”

The event will be held in the members’ restaurant of the Scottish Parliament, in Edinburgh, from 5.30pm.
