Regional journalist vies with Charlatans frontman for music award

Peter GuyA daily journalist and blogger is set to compete against rock stars and DJs for an independent music award.

Peter Guy, who works for the Liverpool Echo, has been nominated in the ‘Indie Champion’ category at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2015 for his Getintothis music blog.

Peter, pictured above left, faces competition from Charlatans lead singer Tim Burgess for the prize, as well as BBC 6 Music presenters Camilla Pia and Marc Riley.

The blog, which focuses on new music in Merseyside, was launched through the Echo in 2007 but is now produced independently by Peter and his team.

He said: “I was shocked, delighted and honoured to be listed among such heavy-weights from the UK music industry.

“It’s fair to say I’m the rank outsider.

“I’m just chuffed to even get a mention for me and the Getintothis team – it’s a strong indication of how much national interest there is in Liverpool culture.”

The awards evening will take place in London, on 8 September, and will be hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Alice Levine and XFM’s John Kennedy.

Peter added: “Over time we’ve gone from writing discussion pieces on global pop culture to becoming more focused on the incredible new music coming out of Merseyside.

“I think the reason for us keeping going is not just down to this passion, but the skills our contributors bring to the table.

“We’re now in our eighth year running Getintothis with around 70 contributors and it’s all voluntary and driven solely by passionate people who love new music.”
