A regional daily has won exclusive rights to host highlights of a football league’s matches on its website.

The Press and Journal, Aberdeen, has begun showing a weekly highlights package of games from the Scottish Highland Football League, which kicked off its 2015/16 season on Saturday.

The hour-long highlights show is being broadcast under the name The Big Game, and features analysis as well as on the field action.

The Big Game will be available on the Press and Journal’s website from the Sunday night following each round of matches.

Martin Little, Press and Journal online editor, said: “The Highland League has thousands of dedicated fans who follow their club week-in, week-out.

“We want to bring them the very best coverage of the league they love, from match reports and analysis to reaction and video highlights.

“The Big Game will have this in abundance.”

The Highland League, which feeds into the Scottish national league system, features 18 clubs from across the Highlands, Moray and Aberdeenshire.

The Press and Journal also currently serves as the league’s main sponsor.

Editor-in-chief Damian Bates said: “This is an exciting move for both the Press and Journal and the Highland League.

“The Press and Journal has a long-standing, excellent relationship with the SHFL as main sponsor of the league.

“We are already the primary source of news and analysis for the Highland League in print – now we are taking it to a new level with video highlights online.”
