County cricket success celebrated with daily pullout

A cricketing triumph prompted a regional daily to produce a special supplement commemorating the success.

The Yorkshire Post celebrated Yorkshire County Cricket Club winning the County Championship for the second year in a row with a 12-page pullout in yesterday’s newspaper.

The supplement featured a piece by the Post’s award-winning cricket writer Chris waters on the club’s “fairtytale season”, achieved despite never recording the “perfect” performance.

It also included interviews with captain Andrew Gale, bowler Ryan Sidebottom and coaches Martyn Moxon and Jason Gillespie.

Club president Dickie Bird also spoke to the Post, predicting the White Rose County will win the title for the next three years.

Match-by-match graphics detailing how the title was won were also found in the pullout, as well as the squad’s batting and bowling averages.

A centre-spread graphic by artist Graeme Bandeira detailing the season by numbers was also contained in the piece.

The ‘stat’ poster’ graphic, pictured below, was later made available for supporters to download for free from the Post’s website.

Last year the Post published a glossy 64 page souvenir magazine dedicated to Yorkshire’s triumph in the same competition, which was sold across the county.

In December it was named Regional Newspaper of the Year at the England and Wales Cricket Board’s fourth annual County Cricket Journalism Awards.
