Yorks MullaA business desk intern at a regional daily whose year-long placement was funded by charity has been taken on as a permanent member of staff.

Ismail Mulla, pictured left, joined the Yorkshire Post last November with an internship scheme funded by The Printing Charity.

The scheme was set up to highlight Yorkshire’s creative and digital industries and help develop the next generation of journalism talent in the county.

Ismail, from Dewsbury, has been reporting on general business news as well the aforementioned industries during his time with the Post, which has also seen him receive training and mentorship.

He said of his appointment: “I am very proud to be joining the staff here at The Yorkshire Post on a permanent basis. I have dreamed of being a journalist since the age of ten.

“This wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for The Printing Charity’s help.

“The charity has not only given me the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business but also given me a chance to showcase my enthusiasm and ever developing abilities.”

Bernard Ginns, Post business editor, said: “I would like to thank The Printing Charity for developing this innovative and worthwhile project.”
