Business reporter quits daily for PR role

jentwitter_400x400A business reporter on a regional daily has left to join a leading public relations agency on her patch.

Jenny Waddington, left, previously with the Coventry Telegraph, has taken up a new role as an account manager with Century PR, a national PR agency with offices in Coventry in London.

Also venturing into the world of PR is Hayley Robinson, formerly chief reporter of the Sittingbourne News Extra and Sittingbourne Messenger.

Hayley had spent 14 years with the KM Group, having initially joined as a trainee reporter for the Sheerness Times Guardian in 2001.

Other recent job moves within the regional press include the following:

  • The Scotsman has appointed Chris McCall as a multimedia journalist covering stories from the city of Glasgow and across Strathclyde. Chris was previously a reporter at the Falkirk Herald.
  • Joshua Murray has joined the Burton Mail as a trainee sports writer while senior reporter Nick Humphreys has left the paper.  Also leaving is Lucy Grosvenor who has joined the Buxton Advertiser as social media reporter.
  • The Cambrian News has appointed Julie McNicholls Vale as assistant news editor in addition to her current role as features editor.
  • Northern Echo reporter Helen Russell has returned from maternity leave and will be covering the Shildon and Ferryhill patches in County Durham for the paper

    So, when these folks move into PR who do they think they are going to sell the story into because you can bet they won’t be replaced?

    And by the way, the CET wouldn’t know a decent business story if it bit them on the proverbial backside. Under the old regime that was.
