Award-winning Sunday investigative reporter moves on

DevlinleavesAn award-winning investigative reporter praised for her bravery at this year’s Regional Press Awards has moved to a new role.

Patricia Devlin, of Belfast’s Sunday Life, was awarded both the Daily/Sunday News Reporter of the Year and the Scoop of the Year titles at the ceremony in May.

She has now left the paper to join the Irish Daily Star, based in Dublin.

Patricia, pictured left at her leaving presentation, won her award after travelling to Peru to land an exclusive interview with Michaella McCollum, who was jailed in Peru for drugs smuggling in 2013.

The awards judges said: “She boasted brave reporting on top of a courageous investment by her editor.”

Other recent job moves in the regional press include the following:

  • Glenn Mitchell, deputy editor at Bayliss Media’s Maidenhead Advertiser, Slough & Windsor Express and Twyford Advertiser, has left for a PR role with NHS East London Foundation Trust. His former role as deputy editor is being covered by Nicola Hines and Kelly Young.
  • Eastern Daily Press tourism correspondent Stephen Pullinger has left the Archant daily after 14 years to start a new career in PR with Kingsley Healthcare.
  • Halifax Courier political reporter Jon Cronshaw has left the paper for a role in political communications. A replacement has yet to be appointed.
  • The Hertfordshire Mercury has appointed Cristina Pérez as a reporter, working also for its Midweek Mercury edition.
  • North Wales Pioneer reporter Dean Jones has left the paper.

All these people leaving for PR, I’m genuinely sat here listening to the Soviet national anthem on YouTube trying to cheer myself up.
