Weekly editor moves on as title marks 6th birthday

A weekly newspaper is bidding farewell to its only editor to date as it celebrates its sixth birthday today.

Stroud Life was launched in 2008 and Jason Chare joined as its first editor in November of that year.

Now Jason has been appointed to a new role as head of production for Gloucestershire Media, overseeing production of daily titles the Gloucester Citizen and the Glooucestershire Echo.

A new editor for Stroud Life is being sought with the role being advertised on HoldtheFrontPage here.

Jason has been overseeing the subbing team at Gloucestershire Media since the death of Citizen chief sub Darren Powell in August.

Darren died on his 42nd birthday at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage the previous month.

Shortly afterwards Darren’s Gloucestershire Echo counterpart, Lisa Templeton, was seconded to the run the North Devon Journal of which she is now editor.

In his new role, Jason will head the subbing teams at both titles.

Stroud Life was established in MarcH 2008 by Northcliffe Media, now Local World, as a part-free, part paid-for rival to established Nwesquest-owned weekly the Stroud News and Journal.

It currently has a circulation of 12,980 according to the most recent ABC figures.
