Trinity Mirror appoints new group development editor

A senior executive who has helped oversee newsroom transformation for Trinity Mirror titles has been promoted to a new role.

Toby Chapman, left, moves from editorial development manager for regional titles to the new role of group development editor, the company announced today.

Trinity said he would be involved in the “ongoing transformation of the group’s news brands” as well as “ensuring further collaboration between the regional and national teams.”

His work in his current role has included guiding newsroom transformation projects, designing multimedia workflows and implementing best practices.

Regionals editorial director Neil Benson said:  “Toby has a fantastic range of skills, spanning journalism, data analysis, workflow and project management, and his promotion is thoroughly deserved.

“Our aim is to become one of the UK’s leading multi-platform publishers and the ongoing transformation of our newsrooms is integral to that.”

Toby will report to Neil and will also work closely with Eugene Duffy, group managing editor.

He began his career at the Clitheroe Advertiser & Times and was sports editor of the Edinburgh Evening News before moving to Liverpooll, where he was executive editor at the Liverpool Echo.

Not only journalism, but data analysis, workflow and project management. Impressive expertise. I remember the days when Neil Benson was an excellent hands-on, page-designing sub-editor. Times, and job requirements, have changed.
