Students win chance to cover global conference

Two journalism students have won a competition to report on a global manufacturing conference taking place next week.

Salford University students Jake Overend and Henna Sheth, both 19, will cover the Manufacturing Institute’s 20th Anniversary conference taking place in Cheshire from 30 Sep – 3 Oct.

The conference will welcome the world’s best manufacturers to share the secrets of their success, and celebrate manufacturing past, present and future.

Jake and Henna will use Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Twinesocial to report on the gathering.

Said Jake, who is studying multimedia journalism at the Media City campus; “This is a brilliant opportunity for us.  It’s not just great work experience, it’s a fantastic chance to get a conversation going about manufacturing through all the social media channels on #futureofmfg. And we’re getting paid!”

Henna, who is studying broadcast journalism, said: “I’m really looking forward to talking to people from all sides of manufacturing and unearthing some great stories along the way.”

Julie Madigan, chief executive of the Manufacturing Institute said:  “We’re very much looking forward to celebrating our 20th birthday and it’s great to be able to offer Jake and Henna a chance to put their social media skills to the test.

“We’ve got some great stories to tell. Over the last two decades the Manufacturing Institute has educated over 50,000 manufacturers, worked in over 9,000 manufacturing companies across the world, achieved over £1 billion of quality, cost and delivery impacts, worked with 60,000 children through Make IT and
introduced Fab Labs in to the UK.”
