The full shortlist for the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards for 2013 is published for the first time on HTFP this morning.
Celebrating the best of British regional and local newspaper journalism in 2013 in print, online and any other news platform, the full list of shortlisted entries appears below and can also be seen on the awards website at www.regionalpressawards.org.uk.
Leading the way with eight nominations is the Eastern Daily Press while the Manchester Evening News and The Journal, Newcastle, both have six.
Other multiple nominees include the Derby Telegraph. Leicester Mercury and Newcastle Chronicle, each with five.
Prizes will be handed out at a ceremony over lunch to be held at the Lancaster London Hotel, Lancaster Gate on Friday 16 May, to be hosted by broadcaster Nick Ferrari.
Chairman of the judges Paul Horrocks said: “Once again the judges have been astounded by the scale and quality of the entries that come out of the regional and local press. We very much look forward to welcoming the shortlisted candidates on 16 May to further celebrate the work of the regions.”
The awards are organised by the Society of Editors in conjunction with the Newspaper Society and are held in association with HoldtheFrontPage and the Press Association.
Lead sponsor for the awards is UK Power Networks while HTFP is sponsoring the Young Journalist of the Year category for the fourth year running.

Four nominations for the Basildon-Southend Evening Echo (my first and favourite paper) says a lot for the people producing a fine product in difficult circumstances and emphasises the great talent of Jon Austin. Congratulations to Mark Douglas nominated as sports reporter of the year for the Journal despite being banned by Newcastle United!

Congratulations to the EDP on its nominations. It has taken a bit of stick over the last couple of days, but, under Nigel Pickover, it still has a top team, producing a great product.
