Regional publisher names new advertising supremo

A regional publisher has announced the appointment of a new group advertising boss, sparking a reshuffle at two of its biggest dailies.

Steve Hollingsworth, left, currently publisher of the Nottingham Post, is to become advertising development director for parent company Local World.

His job at Nottingham goes to David Simms, who takes on the role in addition to his existing post as publisher of the Leicester Mercury.

Loacl World said today that both Steve and David will take up their new roles with immediate effect.

Steve will be working alongside LW commercial director Blanche Sainsbury to ensure the group is maximising advertising revenue and finding new and innovative revenue streams, as well as helping to shape its motors proposition.

Said Steve: “I am relishing the challenge that this new role brings, especially the requirement to grow our advertising customer base and have robust, response orientated products in place for them.”

David, right, was appointed publisher of the Leicester Mercury Media Group in August 2011 having previously been regional managing director for Trinity Mirror in the North-East.

He said: “I am really looking forward to working with the Nottingham team and exploring how both Leicester and Nottingham can work together to further improve our offering to the market – in both content and commerce. I would also like to wish Steve the very best of luck and success in his new role.”

Why do media execs, to a man, talk such management speak gobbledygook?
Right, I’m off down the pub to enhance the interface experience between my mouth and a clear-sided receptacle for a hop-based liquid solution….

Great appointment. David is a good operator. Nottingham will enjoy working for him. Best MD in the business.

I am a “robust, response-orientated” chap myself, so can relate to this stirring announcement. I am also keen to “explore” the difference all this to-ing and fro-ing makes to LW in hard financial terms six months down the line. Hacks depend on these people to genrate the dough to pay their wages and if they can do that their witlesse misuse of the beautiful English language will be forgiven by all at the company. To paraphrase (I wonder how many execs honestly know the meaning of that word) Juan Direction, let’s hope the boys mine maximum revenues at the commerco-news coal face to ensure a viably future scenario on the income-life imbroglio.

Steve Holly is one of, if not the last. the very few strong managers to have survived to debacle of NML last couple of years. Good luck to him and remember Steve to watch your back.
    Back with BS again lol!
