PR director role for former daily editor

Alun_ThorneA former regional daily editor who stepped down from his role last month has joined a leading Midlands PR consultancy as a director.

Alun Thorne, pictured, left the Coventry Telegraph on 21 October to take up a new role which, at the time, had yet to be announced.

It has now been confirmed he is to become a director of Birmingham based media consultancy Barques PR.

The move represents a second sojourn into the world of PR and marketing for Alun, having previously worked for some of the region’s biggest property developers in the mid-2000s.

Alun told HTFP: “Barques is a fantastic company and the opportunity to join as a director was certaonly one I didn’t want to pass up.

“It’s an exciting new challenge and hopefully I’ll be able to put some of the skills I’ve gained in newspapers to good use.”

Alun is currently dividing his time between the West Midlands and North West with an eye to future expansion plans by his new employers.

“We have some significant clients in the North west and Yorkshire and we’re looking to expand our operation into Manchester some time in the next year,” he added.
