New editors appointed at Trinity Mirror titles

Trinity Mirror has named new editors for two of its biggest Scottish titles following a shake-up which saw the previous news chief promoted to MD.

Allan Rennie, who combined his role as editor in chief of Media Scotland with the editorships of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail, was made managing director last week in succession to Denise West, who is joining rival publisher DC Thomson.

Now Allan has named Murray Foote as the new editor of the Record, with Jim Wilson appointed editor of the Mail.

Murray is a previous deputy editor of the Record while Jim has been executive editor at the Mail since 2012.

Said Allan: “Murray and Jim and two of Scotland’s most experienced and talented journalists and I am delighted to have them at the helm in a historic year, where our nation hosts the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup, World War 1 Commemoration and the Independence Referendum.

“As well as maintaining our position as Scotland’s best print brands they will be responsible for driving and accelerating our digital audience growth.”

Murray said:  “Having worked for the Daily Record for the best part of 23 years, it is an immense privilege to be appointed editor of Scotland’s newspaper.

“It will be my honour to lead the country’s finest team of journalists as we embark on a momentous year for our country.”

Jim added: “I’m delighted to edit the Sunday Mail where a terrific team of journalists are securing a bright future for a great newspaper.”

Both Murray and Jim, along with Jonathan Russell publishing director of Media Scotland’s regional titles, will report directly to Allan.
