New editor roles created at South West titles

Two new editor roles have been created at a series of Archant-owned titles in the South West following an editorial review.

Simon Angear, who took over as group editor of the publisher’s Somerset titles from Judi Kisiel this spring, has reintroduced a dedicated editor for the North Somerset Times in the shape of Samantha Pope.

Samantha joins from the Weston, Worle & Somerset Mercury Series where she has been news editor for the past three years.

At the time same Mercury reporter Tom Wright has been appointed as chief reporter.

Said Simon: “During her three years as news editor on the same title, Sam has played a pivotal role in shaping the brand during a period of unprecedented growth and prosperity. She has proven herself an enormously capable journalist and impresses daily with her passion for the title and the area.

“Like Sam, Tom grew up locally and is passionate about the area, demonstrating excellent knowledge of the patch’s characters and issues. He routinely impresses with his skill, creativity and diligence.”

Meanwhile another new editor role has been created in Devon with Stefan Gordon stepping up to be editor of the Sidmouth Herald, having previously been deputy group editor of the publisher’s North and East Devon titles, and Andrew Coley becoming content editor of the Midweek Herald and Cranbrook Herald.

Archant said the new roles were designed to give the titles a more recognisable person as a figurehead within the community.
