All five of the Highland police officers authorised to routinely carry sidearms were on patrol in Inverness town centre on Saturday evening. The photo shows three of them outside The Caledonian, on their way to an argument between two men outside McDonald’s. In conversation the officers said that their two other armed colleagues were elsewhere in the town centre, also on routine patrol. One officer stated that he and his colleagues are “only sent in as a last resort” but added “if anything’s going to happen in the Highlands tonight then it’s likely to be in Inverness”.Picture: Andrew Smith
