Fresh drubbing for media XI in annual footie encounter

A team of local media journalists received a hammering at the hands of a Premiership club’s staff team in an annual football game.

Swansea City’s staff side, which included the club’s manager Gary Monk, triumphed 6-2 over a team made up of local newspaper and broadcasting journalists, including several from the Suoth Wales Evening Post.

Roberto Martinez introduced the annual kickabout one Christmas when he was Swans’ manager, telling the local media it was a Spanish tradition for the club’s coaching staff to take on their local press.

With the game now in its seventh year, the hapless hacks are still in search of that elusive first victory.

Bemoaning their demise, Media Captain, Gareth Vincent, Chief Sports Reporter at the Post, said they had simply been “outclassed.”

“We desperately need to recruit some really talented, possibly ex-professional players, to our team in order to be in with a chance,” he told HoldtheFrontPage.

“We did have ex-Swansea City star, Lee Trundle promise to play for us this time, but despite all the talk, he just didn’t show up. Possibly he was nobbled by the other side.”

Joining Monk in the line-up during his first outing for the Swans side were Alan Curtis, goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker, Physio Richard Buchanan, Alan Curtis, and Kristian O’Leary.
