Four regional dailies to be invaded by Menace

Readers of four regional dailies are set to get a comic strip treat in their paper today and tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s editions of the Manchester Evening News, Birmingham Mail, Liverpool Echo and Newcastle Chronicle will include a free 32-page Beano magazine as part of a promotion by owners Trinity Mirror.

In addition, individual Beano strips with localised storylines have appeared in today’s editions of the four dailies.

Saturday’s strip will see long-time Beano cover stars Dennis The Menace and Gnasher attempt to save a rollercoaster in their fictional Beanotown home.

The comic will also appear in the Daily Mirror and Scotland’s Daily Record.

Trinity Mirror Head of Marketing Shane Davison said, “This iconic and much-loved comic has been entertaining British children for many generations and all of us at Trinity Mirror are thrilled to be working with Dennis, Gnasher and all the other characters from The Beano for the first time this weekend.”

The special edition comic is estimated to reach around 3.6 million readers.

Kirsty Matthews, DC Thomson Group marketing manager (newspapers & magazines), added: “We are delighted to be sampling The Beano with Trinity Mirror.

“It’s an exciting project for our brand allowing us to reach families up and down the country on both regional and national platforms.”

Hope we can tell the difference between the paper and the Beano, eh readers?

Have they no sense of irony? My paper’s idea of added value is old pictures from yesteryear from the paper and, er, more old pictures sent in by readers and their grotty sent-in pictures. Oh yes and pictures of pixilated pets, sent-in of course. Comic indeed.
