Fire at newspaper’s office ‘was coincidence’

A Scottish newspaper has described as “inaccurate” reports linking a fire outside its offices to post-referendum disturbances between nationalists and unionists.

Fire broke out outside the offices of the Herald and Sunday Herald in Glasgow on Friday evening, the day after Scots voted against breaking away from the UK.

On the Sunday Herald’s Twitter account, the newspaper said: “There WAS a fire outside our building but no evidence linking it to unionist thugs elsewhere in city.”

It later emerged that the fire involved an electricity generator at the nearby Flying Duck club.
