Culture secretary to address editors conference

Culture secretary Sajid Javid has joined the list of speakers for the year’s biggest media gathering.

Next month’s Society of Editors conference will take place  Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton and will open with the annual Society of Editors Lecture to be delivered by IPSO chairman Sir Alan Moses on the evening of Sunday 9 November.

Mr Javid will address the gathering at the close of the conference on the morning of Tuesday 11 November.

Other key speakers at the event will include James Harding, director of news at the BBC, and human rights specialist Gavin Millar QC.

Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors said: “We are very grateful to Sajid Javid.

“With the many issues of crucial importance to the media that are on the table now and which will be discussed in the run-up to the General Election this will be a key opportunity to hear from ‘our’ Minister.”

Mr Javid was appointed culture secretary in April following the downfall of the previous incumbent, Maria Miller.

He has been tipped by some as a future leader of the Conservative Party.
