Capital launch for latest local TV station

Another local TV station is set to hit the screens of a UK capital city next month.

Made In Cardiff, part of the biggest name in the new cross-country television revolution, has announced it will begin broadcasting programmes on Wednesday, 15 October.

The company behind the latest opening – Made TV – will see its stations cover a combined audience of more than 10 million in Britain.

The TV station will include current affairs, arts and culture, entertainment, music, property and sports programming. A test transmission has already begun on Freeview channel 23 in south east Wales.

The broadcaster, which will be based in Cardiff city centre and will have around 20 staff, is developing a strong web presence for its stations as well as a pioneering app which will enable viewers to interact with its programmes in a new, radical format.

The Made TV group has another imminent start-up in Leeds – with further licences for local TV in Bristol, Middlesbrough and Newcastle.

Six local TV channels have made it to the airwaves so far, having broadcast some 6,400 hours of local programmes to a potential audience of six million across the UK.

A further 10 are preparing to launch by next February which will leave almost half of the original 30 licence holders yet to deliver a start date.
