Former PA reporter to take on daily’s football brief

A regional daily has named a successor to a long-serving football reporter who recently took redundancy after 34 years.

As previously reported on HTFP, Paul Thompson bade farewell to Sheffield daily The Star after more than three decades covering Sheffield Wednesday.

He will be replaced by Dom Howson, who has previously worked for the Yorkshire Evening Post and Press Association in Howden.

Said Dom:  “Paul has been a top bloke and been a super operator. It’s my job now to build on his fine work. Fans can look forward to exclusive interviews, quirky features and more Owls videos than ever before on our website.”

Here’s our regular round-up of other recent job moves in the regional press.

  • Manchester Evening News sports reporter Mike Keegan left his role last week for a new position at BBC Sport.
  • Archant London has appointed Laura Burnip as senior reporter at the Romford Recorder and the Ilford Recorder. Laura was previously a reporter on the Hertfordshire Mercury.
  • Robert Dalling will be acting news editor at the Llanelli Star after news editor Alana Lewis went on maternity leave.
  • Plymouth Herald reporter Patrick Daly has been promoted to political correspondent.
  • George Thorpe is the new sport reporter at Falmouth Packet.
