Annual media conference to head south

This year’s Society of Editors conference is to be held in Southampton from 9-11 November, it has been confirmed.

Bookings are now being taken for the year’s biggest industry gathering which will take place at the city’s Grand Harbour Hotel near to the waterfront that is home to cruise liners such as the Queen Mary 2.

In keeping with the maritime theme, the conference will be entitled ‘Full Steam Ahead.’

Traditionally the venue is chosen by the outgoing president of the SoE who this year is Iain Murray, editor-in-chief of the Southampton-based Southern Daily Echo.

Items on the agenda are expected to include the new system of regulation, with the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) due to up and running by the autumn.

Other subjects for debate are likely to include attempts to restrict freedom of the internet, while there will be a chance for media bosses to question leading politicians on their policies for the industry ahead of the 2015 general election.

For more information on how to book, contact the Society of Editors on 01223 304080 or via email using [email protected].
