Regional daily raises £1,200-plus for flood victims

A regional daily which decided to donate part of its cover price to help victims of the winter floods has raised more than £1,200.

The Western Daily Press announced that 10pc of the sale proceeds from its Monday 17 February edition would go to the Somerset Community Foundation’s appeal fund.

Publisher Local World has now revealed that the paper raised a total of £1,277.16 as a result of the initiative.

Newsquest titles the Somerset County Gazette and Bridgwater Mercury also donated cash to the fund, which raised more than £250,000 for communities affected by the deluge.
