‘Outstanding’ daily wins cricket award

A county-wide daily has been recognised for its “outstanding all-round coverage” of cricket.

The Yorkshire Post won the Regional Newspaper of the Year category at the England and Wales Cricket Board’s fourth annual County Cricket Journalism Awards.

The awards were set up to recognise outstanding contributions towards the reporting of domestic cricket during the summer season.

The Darlington-based Northern Echo was also commended by the ECB for its coverage of the sport.

Mark Baldwin, chairman of the Cricket Writers’ Club, said: “The Yorkshire Post was a deserved winner of the Regional Newspaper of the Year award by rising to the challenge of chronicling Yorkshire’s triumphant County Championship campaign besides providing outstanding all-round coverage.”

Last month the Leeds-based title produced a glossy 64 page souvenir magazine dedicated to Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s title-winning season.
