Trinity Mirror digital publishing director David Higgerson is to add the newly-created role of assistant editorial director to his responsibilities, the company has announced.

David will support Trinity Mirror’s editorial director for regionals Neil Benson, and deputy editorial director Alan Edmunds in leading editorial development across its regional news brands.

Said Neil: “In recent years, David has played an increasingly influential role in our newsroom development, including the successful introduction of Newsroom 3.1 this year.

”Under the new Trinity Mirror editorial structure, we will work hand-in-glove with the regional editors-in-chief to develop and implement editorial strategies for the digital age.”

David, pictured, began his career on the Lancashire Telegraph before joining Newcastle daily The Journal in 2002.

He eventually became head of multimedia for TM’s regional titles and was appointed digital publishing director in December 2011.
