Hyperlocal website wins building society grant

A hyperlocal news website has won a £500 grant for its work in the community it serves.

SalfordOnline.com has been awarded the cash in an initiative run by Skipton Building Society to reward grassroots community work.

The Manchester-based site was established in 2001 and, according to Google Analytics figures, is read by around 35,000 people a week.

Between 18 October and 18 November the site reached a record 142,200 visitors.

News editor Tom Rodgers said: “The popularity of SalfordOnline.com in the local community has helped us to secure this win, and I would like to thank every single reader who took the time to vote for us.

“This grant will be hugely beneficial to us; we aim to give many more volunteering opportunities to deserving students in Salford, as well as improving our video news production to bring more great local content to the people of Salford and beyond.”
