Cunning appointment unveiled by Johnston Press

AndrewCunningJohnston Press has announced the appointment of a new chief creative officer to develop “innovative” print and digital packages for advertisers.

Andrew, pictured left, will manage 40 creatives alongside a team of digital product managers across the UK and will report to Jeff Moriarty, JP’s chief digital and product officer.

JP says the newly created role will also allow him to draw on his extensive experience in display advertising to support of its continued transformation from a print to multi-platform business.

Said Andrew of his appointment: “I love working with technology and using it to deliver pioneering creative ideas, so I am very pleased to be a part of the business as it continues to move from print to multi-platform publishing, and to oversee the development of the team during this hugely important period of transition.”

In a separate announcement the company has also appointed a new managing director of national sales, Liam Reynolds.

Well said, Mr. T. What is a creative? Someone who thinks they are creative? A pre-press operator? A qualified designer – be that in print or digital? Where are these 40 ‘creatives’? JP made designers redundant and their work went to India. Perhaps it should have employed a CCO prior to making that decision and he could have had some input into what designers, if any he wanted to retain and see the quality in each centre. As is is, he must simply be working with those that are left.
