Conference to debate Scottish media’s ‘identity’

A conference which will look at whether the Scottish media contributes to a sense of “national identity.”

Ahead of this autumn’s referendum on Scottish independence, The Scotsman is hosting a conference on the future of the industry north of the border.

Among the topics up for discussion the link between between the media and Scottish identity.

Professor Raymond Boyle of the University of Glasgow, will argue that the media in Scotland no longer carries a sense of national identity while former newspaper editor and Labour MP Brian Wilson will also explore the issue.

Other speakers at the event, sponsored by Weber Shandwick, include Jeff Moriarty, new chief digital and product officer at Johnston Press, who will look at global trends in digital media and the changing face of digital content.
