A weekly newspaper has issued a rallying call to its readers to support a local celebrity in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The Western Gazette is joining locals of Langport and Somerton in backing Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden as she prepares to whirl onto our screens this weekend for the ballroom dancing competition.

Posters urging locals to vote for the 54-year-old investor and businesswoman, who lives near Langport, have been handed out to readers in recent weeks.

Langport and the Somerton Rugby Club, which is coached by her husband, have already pledged their support.

Deborah was matched with professional dancer Robin Windsor and will be up against Countdown presenter Rachel Riley and BBC Breakfast host Susanna Reid.
