A weekly newspaper is calling on readers to back their local X Factor star ahead of tomorrow night’s final.
The Harborough Mail is getting behind prison officer Sam Bailey who made it through to the final of the ITV show after impressing judges with two stunning performances last weekend.
Although the 36-year-old is the bookmaker’s favourite to take the crown, the paper has urged readers to help make Sam’s dream come true by voting on Saturday night.
Having made it through with performances of Beyonce’s If I Were A Boy and Elton John’s Candle In The Wind, she will be competing against Luke Friend and Nicholas McDonald in the final at Wembley Arena.
Harborough Mail deputy editor Alex Blackwell says the paper was more than willing to get behind its new singing sensation.
“Watching Sam’s metamorphosis from undoubtedly talented singer into the clear favourite for the show under the guidance of mentor Sharon Osbourne has been fascinating,” he said.
“Regardless of the result, Sam clearly has a fantastic career ahead of her, which surely nobody will begrudge her.
“And for those of us no longer in the first flush of youth, there is something rather special about seeing someone get their big chance, and grabbing it with both hands, later on in life.”
The front page was designed by editor Neil Pickford who spotted the image and saw the potential for a Kitchener-type design.
It is the newspaper patch’s second brush with reality TV fame this year after Harborough’s Frances Quinn was crowned the Great British Bake Off champion back in October.
The Mail also ran an interview with Sam’s husband Craig who issued a rallying cry to readers to get voting.
“The message is clear. If we want Sam to emulate Harborough’s other television star Frances Quinn, then readers need to make sure they vote,” he told the paper.
Is this Market Harbourough? Does Sam live there or a surrounding area?

Ignore my spelling, my trousers are too high and I have caught a chill from wearing my v-neck sweater.
