Weekly newsdesk chief moves up to edit sister title

Regional publisher Local World has named Gabriel Shepard has the new editor of its Kent weekly the Sevenoaks Chronicle.

Gabriel, who moves from the role of news editor at LW sister title the Croydon Advertiser, replaces Roger Kasper who is now editor of the Kent & Sussex Courier.

He joined the Courier as a trainee Reporter in 2005 and became chief reporter before re-launching and editing the Focus free newspaper, distributed in Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sussex.

In 2009 he was appointed news editor of the Courier before moving to the same role at the Advertiser in July 2011.

Said Gabriel: “I‘m delighted to be returning to West Kent and look forward to continuing the Chronicle’s impressive track record of campaigning community journalism.

“Over the past four years Roger and his team have cemented the Chronicle’s place in the thick of Sevenoaks life.  I am determined to make sure this is where it stays both in print and, increasingly, online.”

Richard Karn, Managing Director, South East: “Gabriel has played a key role in modernising the Croydon Advertiser alongside thisiscroydontoday to create a powerful multimedia portfolio. This experience makes him the ideal candidate to take the editor’s chair for the Sevenoaks Chronicle.”

Gabriel, pictured above, will begin his new role on 22 April.
