Shortlist announced for South West media awards

The shortlist for the EDF Energy South West Media Awards 2013 is announced today.

Vying for top place in the race for prizes are the Bristol Post and Swindon Advertiser with nine finalists each on the shortlist, just ahead of The Herald with eight and the Western Morning News with seven.

The awards, held in association with HoldtheFrontPage, honour the best in journalism across the South West – Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Prizes will be handed out at a lunchtime ceremony in Exeter on 6 June.

Dan Pritchard, EDF Energy regional media manager and member of the judging panel said the entries showed that quality journalism was alive and well across the South West.

He said: “There are fantastic contenders on this year’s shortlist and with nearly 300 entries in 20 categories, it’s a great achievement to be nominated.

“The whole judging panel was impressed with the high level of journalism shown, from exclusives and investigative reporting, to good design and bold editorial approaches.

“Be it in print, broadcast or online, there is talent aplenty in the region.”

Also on the panel, which met on Thursday April 25, were Tim Williams, Dan Grimmer and Steve Adams from Archant, Andy Veale, editor at The Hunts Post, Nicky Barnes, news editor at BBC Radio Norfolk, Simon Wright, programme editor at ITV Anglia, Steve Silk, assistant editor at BBC East and HoldtheFrontPage publisher Paul Linford.
