Reporters take on five-mile run for charities

A team of five reporters from a weekly paper braved the rain and mud to take part in a new five-mile annual fundraising race, called the Flat Cap 5.

Dewsbury Reporter series journalists Georgina Morris, Lauren Ballinger, Richard Beecham, Joe Cooper and Jamie Presland were among more than 150 runners in the second annual charity race, organised by the Dewsbury Road Runners, at the end of last month.

While their workmates were braving the course for the first time, it was the second such event for Georgina and Lauren.

The trail takes runners on roads and through fields in the West Yorkshire town.

Richard said he had felt nervous before tackling the track, but added: “I am hoping this could be the start of many more healthy pursuits for me.”

Last year, the first Flat Cap 5 raised more than £600 for charity.

Organisers are hoping this year’s total will top that, with all money going to the Reporter series’ chosen charities – Kirkwood Hospice, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, One Community and Asthma UK.
